Carson Edges out Trump in the Latest National Poll
Ben Carson and Donald Trump are viciously battling for the top spot for the Republican Party. In the latest McClatchy/Marist poll, Carson came out ahead of Trump by a single point.
Which Republican candidate would you vote for?
- Ben Carson – 28%
- Donald Trump – 27%
- Marco Rubio – 11%
- Ted Cruz – 9%
- Jeb Bush – 7%
Carson and Trump continue to swap the lead in various polls. However, a recent trend in almost every poll is the overall closeness that the two candidates are maintaining. In any poll that either candidate wins, the other is always right behind him, ready to overtake at any moment.
Carson is starting to solidify votes amongst radical Republicans. His overt religiosity is proving favorable for right-wing Christian voters who are looking for a candidate that will represent their blind faith in an upcoming election. On top of that, Carson has shown a willingness to let his religious beliefs cloud his judgment, the perfect qualities for a Republican candidate that is pandering for the Christian vote.
On the other hand, Trump has toned down his intensity. While he still bashes his opponents in the media, he has dialed down his racism and is focusing on becoming a more astute politician. Whether or not he can achieve this before the nominations are selected remains to be seen, but if he can continue to develop his political abilities, he may be able to become the serious candidate that the Republican Party so desperately needs.
