Carson Gains a Massive Lead Over Trump in Iowa

A battle is raging on in Iowa. In the latest polls by Monmouth University and Loras College, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson has climbed to a substantial lead over his opponent Donald Trump.

Monmouth

  • Ben Carson – 32%
  • Donald Trump – 18%
  • Marco Rubio – 10%
  • Ted Cruz – 10%
  • Jeb Bush – 8%

Loras College

  • Ben Carson – 31%
  • Donald Trump – 19%
  • Marco Rubio – 10%
  • Jeb Bush – 7%
  • Ted Cruz – 6%

Carson’s sudden surge into the lead is a surprise for most. Trump has been campaigning fairly well across the country, capturing votes from Republican voters, and hitting the right tones. On the other hand, Carson is much more radical in his approach, but he manages to hide through his calm demeanor.

For radical Republican voters, Carson is the better choice. He is deeply religious, pro-Second Amendment, supports the pro-life movement, and is willing to dismantle perceived American threats. Trump has the same stance on most of those issues, but he has also outlined a tax reform plan and is far tougher on immigration.

Both candidates have had their candid moments in the media and have made some outlandish comments. It is difficult to say which candidate will emerge as the Republican nominee, but the sensibleness of Trump should see him secure the nomination, unless the Republicans are interested in running with a radical candidate.
