Carson Surges Ahead in a National Republican Poll
Donald Trump’s time as the top Republican may have come to an end. In the latest national Republican poll by NBC/WSJ, Ben Carson pulled ahead of Trump. This isn’t the first time Trump and Carson have traded the lead, but Carson’s name has been coming up in a lot of polls and he looks poised to challenge the billionaire for top spot.
Which Republican candidate would you vote for?
- Ben Carson – 29%
- Donald Trump – 23%
- Marco Rubio – 11%
- Ted Cruz – 10%
- Jeb Bush – 8%
Carson continues to surprise critics who have pegged him as an un-electable candidate. It remains to be seen whether the Republican establishment would choose him over Trump as their candidate heading into 2016. With Carson, the Republicans will land the radical right vote, but will struggle to capture votes from moderate Republicans. Whereas, with Trump, they stand a much better chance at securing the moderate vote and winning over Democratic voters who are on the fence due to their distrust of everything that is Hillary Clinton.
Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz may climb in the polls as they are both classical Republican candidates. With Cruz, the Republicans would get the loudmouthed partisan champion they are looking for, that is more closely aligned with the parties goals. Rubio on the other hand, provides them with a young face that may be able to win over young voters, something the Republican party has struggled to do for decades.
