The latest on the presidential horse race.

Cruz and Clinton Top Iowa

The latest trends for Iowa by Huffpost Pollster have placed Ted Cruz and Hillary Clinton at the top of their respective parties.

Which Democratic candidate would you vote for?

  • Hillary Clinton – 52%
  • Bernie Sanders – 37%

Which Republican candidate would you vote for?

  • Ted Cruz – 31%
  • Donald Trump – 28%

According to Huffington Post, Cruz is leading the Republican Party. This is a clear break from the usual trends, which have often placed perennial frontrunner Donald Trump at the front of the pack. Cruz is currently mired in controversy surrounding his Canadian birth and the birther movement, spurred on by Trump, is in full swing.

For the Democrats, Clinton managed to decimate Bernie Sanders in this poll and this has become a frequent trend for the Democrats. Sanders wins the odd poll in states like New Hampshire and his home state of Vermont, but he still needs to work harder to gain traction in other battleground states.

In the past, Trump and Clinton were considered unbeatable, but that trend may be changing as both Cruz and Sanders are closing the gap and working hard to challenge them.

The other candidates for the Republicans are struggling to gain momentum. Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and several of the other Republican challengers are still campaigning on hopes and dreams. However, they have little chance of actually winning and are biding time praying for a potential collapse of Cruz and Trump.
