Cruz Takes Iowa, Narrowly Defeats Trump
The latest results for a Fox News Iowa poll are in. Longtime Republican frontrunner Donald Trump has been narrowly defeated by Ted Cruz.
Which Republican candidate would you vote for?
- Ted Cruz – 28%
- Donald Trump – 26%
- Marco Rubio – 13%
- Ben Carson – 10%
- Jeb Bush – 7%
For the first time in months, someone has beaten Trump in a major poll. While Cruz only managed to edge Trump out by 2 points, well within the margin of error, it demonstrates that Cruz is growing in popularity as a candidate and that he may be able to challenge Trump for the GOP nomination.
Many establishment Republicans prefer Cruz and see him as a traditional Republican who perfectly follows the party line. In contrast, Trump uses an off the wall style that is impossible to predict, leaving members of the GOP often questioning what he will do next.
Marco Rubio is still in the mix, but he needs to increase his numbers in a hurry if he wants to win the nomination. He is similar to Cruz on a lot of issues, but he is younger and a “sexier” option for young voters who are looking for a Republican candidate to represent them.
Both Jeb Bush and Ben Carson should consider ending their campaigns. While they still receive marginal support in the polls, they stand virtually no chance of toppling Trump, Cruz, and Rubio. Their platforms are dull and offer little substance to voters.
