Trump and Clinton Lead a CBS Nomination Poll
The latest poll by CBS News has revealed that Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are leading their respective parties. Clinton decisively beat Bernie Sanders, while Trump’s victory over Ben Carson was not as large.
Which Democratic candidate would you vote for?
- Hillary Clinton – 46%
- Bernie Sanders – 27%
- Joe Biden – 16%
Which Republican candidate would you vote for?
- Donald Trump – 27%
- Ben Carson – 21%
- Ted Cruz – 9%
- Marco Rubio – 8%
- Carly Fiorina – 6%
Clinton has maintained her position as the top Democrat. In recent polls, Bernie Sanders has made strides and he is still a legitimate candidate that has a far more progressive background and platform than Clinton. Joe Biden continues to gain support, despite his refusal to officially announce a campaign. If Biden runs for president, he will easily siphon off votes from both Clinton and Sanders, creating a three-way race for the nomination.
The Republican Party is boiling down to a showdown between Trump and Ben Carson. Both candidates are substantially different on major issues, Carson being far more radical and neoconservative, while Trump, beyond his racism, is far more moderate and pro classical conservatism. Marco Rubio is making gains in the polls and may challenge the aforementioned two candidates, but he has a lot of work to do if he wants to become a legitimate candidate that can win the party’s nomination.
