Trump Leads the GOP in the South Carolina Primary
The latest primary poll for South Carolina by Monmouth University has revealed that Donald Trump is still in the lead and by a wide margin. He polled strongly in the state, doubling his advantage over Ben Carson, tripling it over Jeb Bush, and sextupling it over Scott Walker.
Who would you vote for from the Republican Party?
- Donald Trump – 30%
- Ben Carson – 15%
- Jeb Bush – 9%
- Marco Rubio – 6%
- Ted Cruz – 5%
- Scott Walker – 4%
- Mike Huckabee – 3%
Trump has consistently polled well in South Carolina. In a late August poll, he had a +15 over his nearest opponent and in an early August he was a +17.
For many Americans, Trump has become a legitimate candidate, sideshow and all. He is entertaining, outspoken, and charismatic, while some of the other candidates appear flat and pander to demographics for votes. Trump doesn’t pander to anyone but himself.
Carson is a respectable candidate in his own right, but he is struggling to dent Trump in the standings and he seems unable to capture the same momentum that is propelling Trump to the top.
In reality, Walker and Bush are going to struggle to overcome Trump as their platforms are typical and dull. The only way they will surpass Trump is if he steps down or makes a grievous error that completely destroys his campaign.
