Trump Pulls Ahead by 2 Points
The latest general election poll by Rasmussen Reports has placed Donald Trump 2 points ahead of Hillary Clinton.
Which presidential candidate would you vote for?
- Donald Trump – 42%
- Hillary Clinton – 40%
Clinton is still the favorite, but the recent conclusion of her email scandal has left many voters perplexed. Regardless of where you stand on the email scandal, Clinton did break the law, whether knowingly or not, and an average State Department employee would have been fired and charged. Due to this, a lot of voters feel that Clinton got off due to her prolific status. On Thursday, FBI Director James Comey testified to Congress, in which he slammed Clinton and dismissed the majority of her previous statements suggesting that she was innocent.
In the short term, Clinton may see a dip in the polls as Republicans pounce on her, but long term, she should be able to pull ahead and beat Trump.
Trump finds himself in a rare position where the media isn’t focusing on him. After whether the storm his anti-Semitic tweet created, Trump is now on the offensive against Clinton. If he plays his cards right, he can try to appeal to voters and suggest that a Trump presidency will put an end to political corruption due to the fact that Trump isn’t a career politician. Yet, a successful Trump campaign will rely on him finding a way to stop getting caught in the media quagmire that has consumed him for most of the election cycle. As it stands, that seems like an impossible task for Trump.
