Two Polls: Trump Leads, Carson a Close Second

The two latest polls by CNN/ORC and NBC/WSJ have revealed that Donald Trump is still atop of the Republican Party, but Ben Carson is a close second and he is quickly closing the gap.

  • Donald Trump – 27%
  • Ben Carson – 22%
  • Marco Rubio – 8%
  • Jeb Bush – 8%
  • Ted Cruz – 4%

  • Donald Trump – 25%
  • Ben Carson – 22%
  • Marco Rubio – 13%
  • Ted Cruz – 9%
  • Jeb Bush – 8%
  • Carly Fiorina – 7%

Trump, Carson, and Marco Rubio have cemented themselves as the top three and they will likely battle it out for the top spot. Secondary candidates like Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, and Carly Fiorina will struggle to defeat the aforementioned three.

Trump is still leading the Republicans and is seen as a strong candidate heading into an election. He is capable of winning votes from all Republican demographics and he understands how to tap into the desires of his voters.

Carson on the other hand, is more radical in his thinking and appeals to the far right-wing of the Republican Party. He is extremely religious, plays up the importance of religion, and has fanatical views about foreign policy. This will secure him the ultra-conservative vote, but he will struggle to capture the interest of moderate voters who are socially liberal and fiscally conservative.

Rubio is your typical Republican plant. He says all the right things, understands how the political system works, and doesn’t step outside of the box very often. If Trump and Carson fizzle out, Rubio has a strong chance of surpassing them and winning the Republican nomination.
